The Sanibel Music Festival was founded in the 1980′s by Marilyn Lauriente. She was a musician, impresario and music lover.

In its over 30 years of existence The Sanibel Music festival has hosted musicians such as The Emerson String Quartet, Olga Kern, Opera Theater of Connecticut, Wu Han, David Finckel, The Julliard String Quartet, Orion Weiss, Joyce Yang, Jon Nakamatsu, Ruth Laredo, the American String Quartet, the Pacifica Quartet, and the Prazak Quartet.

For children and young adults the festival puts on education programs including a concert for children at the Sanibel School.
